Q: On September 2, during the visit of US Vice President Michael Pence to Poland, Poland and the US signed a joint declaration on 5G. Someone said it may be discriminatory against Chinese companies. What is the response of the Chinese Embassy?

A: Yesterday, Poland and the US signed a joint declaration on 5G, which is a matter between these two countries. In fact, the Polish side has repeatedly stressed that the statement is not targeted at any particular country or specific company. However, some American politicians and media that are anxious to instigate and see chaos, went out of their way to drag China and Huawei into this matter, did everything possible to spread false and misleading information.

The relevant politicians themselves are well aware of, and those from the outside with discerning eyes can also clearly see who is deliberately instigating the media to slander, who is undermining and manipulating cyber-security, who is infringing citizens' privacy and personal freedom. To put it bluntly, there are still some country and certain politicians are always obsessed with the Cold War mentality and zero-sum game. They openly violate the international rules of fairness, justice and non-discrimination. They go to every expedient and abuse state power to strangle a private company. Their ultimate purpose is to suppress other countries' legitimate right of development and hinder the sharing of advanced achievements brought about by the development of productive forces. This kind of "jealousy of other people's gain" mentality is pathological and very disgraceful.

5G is related to global economic development and the progress of human civilization. Only by respecting each other, strengthening cooperation, and making concerted efforts to innovate can all countries in the world seize the tremendous development opportunities created by the new round of scientific and technological revolution and achieve common growth and shared prosperity. Playing political cards and engaging in small circles on the 5G issue can only result in regionalization and fragmentation of the global network, which ultimately benefits no one. The players will only shot themselves in the feet.

China and Poland are important partners who have good intentions, necessary conditions and great potential to deepen mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields. China-Poland cooperation is in line with the interests of the two countries and the well-being of the people. It should not be arbitrarily suspected and accused, and should not be restricted or blocked. The Polish leaders recently stated clearly that Poland will maintain the open and fair environment of the telecommunication market and will not adopt exclusionary policies against specific countries or companies. The Chinese side welcomes and commends this. We believe that the Polish side will keep its promise to build a fair, open and transparent business environment for Chinese companies operating in Poland.
