In 2007, the friendly and cooperative partnership between the People’s Republic of China and the Republic of Poland maintained good momentum of steady growth as evidenced by deepening exchanges and cooperation in various fields.

　　The leaders of the two countries continued to maintain contact. Frequent exchanges between the governments and parliaments of the two countries boosted political trust. From 24 to 26 May, NPC Chairman Wu Bangguo Paid an official goodwill visit to Poland. He met with and had talks with Polish President Lech Kaczynski, Prime Minister Jaroslaw Kaczynski, Marshal of the Senate Bogdan Bousewicz and Marshal of the Sejm Ludwik Dorn respectively. The two sides reached extensive agreement on the furtherance of bilateral relations and parliamentary cooperation. They also signed bilateral cooperation documents in fields such as culture and health. In October, Polish president’s wife Maria Kaczynska attended the opening ceremony of the Shanghai Special Olympic Games. Chinese officials such as Railways Minister Liu Zhijun, Vice Health Minister Wang Longde, Vice Minister Zhang Zhijun of the International Department of the Central Committee of CPC, Director Yan Shizhong of NPC Education, Science, Culture and Public Health Committee, Minister Liu Peng of General Administration of Sport and Minister Li Changjiang of General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspecion and Quarantine led delegations to Poland. Vice Marshal of the Sejm Wojciech Olejniczak, Minister of Labour and Social Policy Anna Kalata, Minister of Transport Jerzy Polaczek and Minister of Construction Andrzej Aumiller led delegations to China.

　　Cooperation between the two foreign ministries was close. In May, Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi met with his Polish counterpart Anna Fotyga during the ASEM Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Hamburg, Germany. In August, Undersecretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Witold waszczykowski came to China for political consultation. He met with and talked with Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi and Assistant Foreign Minister Kong Quan respectively. In August, consultation between the Departments of Policy planning of the two Ministries of Foreign Affairs took place in Beijing. In October and November, the consultation between the Department of European Affairs of the Chinese Foreign Ministry and the Asia-Pacific Department of the Polish Foreign Ministry and the consultation between the two departments of consular affairs of the two foreign ministries were held in Warsaw, Poland.

　　Economic cooperation and trade between the two countries developed rapidly. The 13th meeting of the China-Poland Joint Commission on Economy was held in Beijing and Secretary of State of the Ministry of Economy Pawel Poncyliusz led a delegation to the meeting. The two sides reached extensive agreement on the furtherance to the meeting. The two sides reached extensive agreement on the furtherance of bilateral economic cooperation and trade. Bilateral trade volume hit record high and Poland once again was China’s largest trading partner in central eastern Europe. Visits between the business communities of the two countries were frequent and mutual investment increased.

　　There were productive cooperation in culture and education and increasingly dynamic exchanges between the localities of the two countries. In February, Minister of Culture and National Heritage Kazimierz Ujazdowski visited China and met with State Councillor Chen Zhili. In November, Culture Minister Sun Jiazheng visited Poland. There were also active exchange of visits between the artistic troupes of the two countries. The number of government-sent Chinese teachers in Poland was added to a total of nine. The Confucius Institute of Jagiellonian University in Cracow enjoyed smooth operation. The exchanges between the 12 pairs of friendly provinces and cities were frequent and cooperation was enriched continuously.
