On August 5, 2011, visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi held talks with his Polish counterpart Radoslaw Sikorski in Warsaw.

Yang congratulated Poland on its taking over of the current EU rotating presidency. Yang said that China-EU relations are facing new opportunities for development. China is willing to work together with Poland to lift China-EU comprehensive strategic partnership to a higher level, on the basis of mutual respect, equality and seeking common ground while reserving differences. He called on Poland to play an active role to achieve results at the upcoming 14th China-EU summit to be held in the second half of this year.

"Having enjoyed a long history of contacts, China and Poland have deepened their bilateral cooperation in various fields in recent years," said Yang. "Poland is a big country in Central and Eastern Europe and an important member of the European Union. Poland is also China's important cooperative partner in Europe. China appreciates Poland for actively advocating the development of relations with China, and for firmly pursuing the one-China policy," Yang said. China is willing to join hands with Poland to further expand and deepen bilateral mutually beneficial cooperation in political, economic, trade, humanities and international affairs in order to promote friendly and cooperative partnership between the two countries, the Chinese minister added.

Sikorski, for his part, congratulated China on its achievements of economic development. He said that with a great potential, the relations between Poland and China have enjoyed good development. Both sides should enhance cooperation in high-level contacts, economy, trade, clean energy, culture, education and international affairs. "Poland has always pursued the one-China policy since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries more than 60 years ago, and this position will not change," said Sikorski. He thanked China for its support of EU's integration, saying Poland is willing to play a greater role in improving the EU-China relations.

The two ministers also exchanged views on international and regional issues of common concern.
